A recent update to Windows 11 has thrown a wrench into the works for some Ubisoft games, including the much-anticipated Star Wars Outlaws, rendering them unplayable.
Isn’t it just the worst when our trusty computers decide to throw a tantrum? We depend on them daily, but all it takes is one pesky update to mess things up without any clear reason. While gaming isn’t exactly life or death, it’s certainly frustrating, especially for fans of Ubisoft, who are now grappling with a hiccup thanks to a new Windows 11 update. Since last week, players noticed that certain Ubisoft games stopped working properly, and Microsoft has recently pointed out that the issue isn’t on the users’ end—it’s an unintended consequence of their update.
Microsoft addressed this in a statement, saying, “After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games.” This includes trouble starting the games, getting stuck on loading screens, or even experiencing a dreaded black screen in the middle of play. Among the titles affected are Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
In response, Microsoft has taken precautionary measures. To “safeguard your Windows update experience,” they’re blocking devices with these games from updating to version 24H2 through the Windows Update release channel. Microsoft advises against manually installing the update through the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or media creation tool until a fix is in place.
In the interim, Ubisoft has rolled out a temporary hotfix. However, they’ve warned players of potential performance hiccups while they work on a more permanent solution. They promise to keep users in the loop as soon as something more lasting is developed. So for now, it might be a good idea to dive into some other games on your list. I’m sure that backlog isn’t getting any shorter!
