Capcom has once again delighted its fans by making two of its treasured classics available for purchase without the need for a PS Plus Premium subscription. If you’ve previously owned Resident Evil Director’s Cut or Dino Crisis on your PS3 or PS Vita, good news: you can download them for free without subscribing. These nostalgic gems are out there for both PS5 and PS4, and for newcomers, each will cost just $9.99.
Even though making Resident Evil Director’s Cut and Dino Crisis available for free and standalone purchase marks a positive move, there’s a bit of a downside — neither game features trophies. Sony had earlier clarified that the decision to incorporate trophies into third-party classics rests with the publisher. As it stands, Capcom and Bandai Namco Entertainment don’t seem to be in a rush to add this feature to their older games.
Looking ahead to November 2024, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, another PS Plus Premium classic, will also be freely downloadable for those who have owned it before. It’s important to note that not every classic title gets the cross-buy option, so gamers will need to do a bit of their own detective work to figure out if they can access a title for free.
To make things easier, we suggest checking out a fan-compiled master list of classics that come with cross-buy or free PS5/PS4 upgrades. It’s a handy tool to help determine if you’re able to download a game without any cost.
