I’ve got some exciting news to share! We’re diving into the world of “Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island” for a review, and I had the chance to chat with Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou, co-founder of Polygon Treehouse. Let’s take a closer look!
PS4Blog: Hey there! Great to have you back on the blog. How have things been going for you lately?
Alex: Thanks for having me! It’s been quite a whirlwind these past few years since we launched our last indie game, Röki. Now, with Mythwrecked, I’m thrilled to delve into folklore and mythology from a fresh angle. Instead of drawing from Scandinavian tales, we’re exploring what it would be like if the Greek gods existed today.
PS4B: We’re eagerly anticipating “Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island,” especially its release on the Nintendo Switch on December 5. Can you shed some light on what players can expect?
Alex: We’re describing this game as an “explore-o-story” adventure. You play as Alex, a backpacker whose much-needed vacation turns unexpectedly adventurous after a mysterious storm leaves them stranded on a hidden island. During this journey, you’ll meet the gods of Greek mythology, help them regain their memories, and seek a path back home.
PS4B: When did you start working on this project, and how has it transformed from the initial concept to the final game we’ll soon be playing?
Alex: The seeds for this project were planted about three years ago. The core ideas, like the radar treasure hunting and memory flashbacks, have stayed true from the beginning. However, the ‘Story Sandbox’—where you engage in conversations with the gods—went through several iterations. I’m genuinely happy with the outcome because it immerses players right into the heart of the unfolding narrative.
PS4B: Röki also received a physical release. Is there any chance we’ll see the same for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island?
Alex: I’m a huge fan of physical copies, and it was a dream come true to have one for Röki. As of now, there’s no news on a physical release for Mythwrecked, but it’s definitely something I’d love to see happen down the road.
PS4B: And with that, we’re wrapping up. Is there anything else you would like to share?
Alex: Just a big thank you to everyone reading this! If you enjoy cozy games with a mix of mythology, adventure, and a touch of mystery, we invite you to check out Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island. We believe it’s an indie game experience that will stay with you!
