In the world of Monster Hunter Wilds, where facing off against gigantic, terrifying beasts is the name of the game, you’d expect an arachnophobia mode to keep all things creepy-crawly at bay. Unfortunately, the current version falls short. While it successfully swaps the smaller spider-like creatures into less menacing slimes, it leaves the colossal spider foes untouched — some of which pop up just a few hours into your adventure.
Thankfully for PC players, a modding hero has come to the rescue. Enter NexusMods user TeaSharkLad, who, before even diving into the game, decided to tackle this oversight. “Just so everyone knows, the first thing I’m doing before jumping into Monster Hunter Wilds is changing Nerscylla and Lala Barina into gigantic slimes,” they shared on X over the weekend.
A few hours later, the Temnophobia Mode mod was born. For those not in the loop, Temnocerans is the fancy name for these eight-legged monsters in Monster Hunter. With this mod equipped, the spider bosses transform into gooey blobs. Admittedly, TeaSharkLad mentions that seeing the bosses’ attacks might be tricky due to the blobby designs. “It’s not perfect, and I might not be the best person for the job, but it had to be done,” they humbly noted in the mod description.
To get everything up and running, you’ll need the Fluffy Mod Manager and REFramework. Don’t worry, they’re straightforward to install — a bit of unzipping and locating your Monster Hunter Wilds folder is all it takes. The Temnophobia mod itself is then just a simple drag-and-drop.
Originally, TeaSharkLad considered the mod something of a lighthearted jest but soon realized its potential to genuinely help those let down by the game’s built-in arachnophobia mode. It’s safe to say many players will be grateful for their efforts, and maybe, just maybe, Capcom will take a page out of this book for future updates.
