Steam Deck has recently given its beta software users a fresh feature, offering access to the Notes app. This might be one of Steam’s underrated gems, allowing players to jot down game objectives, hints, or any random thoughts that pop up during gameplay. What’s brilliant about this feature is that your notes are tied to individual games. This means if you’re a PC gamer with existing notes, they’ll seamlessly sync with your Steam Deck—and it works the other way around too.
Navigating to your notes on the Steam Deck is straightforward. While playing, just hit the Steam button, and you’ll spot the “Notes” option a few selections above “Exit game.” It’s a handy spot to review your notes and add new ones when inspiration strikes. Plus, you can find them at the bottom of each game’s details page you own, making them easy to access anytime.
These notes are part of Steam’s arsenal of cool tools, like Game Recording. On PCs, you can bring these up while gaming with a simple Shift + Tab combination. Although pinning notes directly to the game screen isn’t possible on the Steam Deck yet, you can still access them outside of playtime—just check along the right side of each game page where your screenshots and achievements are displayed.
Currently, this feature hasn’t rolled out to the Steam Deck’s stable software release. If you’re eager to try it out, you’ll need to switch to the beta version through the system settings. The transition is smooth—your game saves, installations, notes, and other data stay intact. And if any pesky bugs make an appearance, you can effortlessly flip back to the stable version without losing any progress.
