Exciting news is buzzing in the gaming world as more updates have emerged about Dune Awakening. Funcom has shared a quick overview of what’s in store for the game’s future once it’s released. Plus, we’ve got the scoop on the PC specs, thanks to an official update on its Steam store page.
Guiding us through these plans, Chief Creative Officer Joel Byros presents a short video that sets the stage for Dune Awakening post-launch. Mark your calendars for May 20—it’s going to be a big day! Byros assures us that, unlike other MMOs, Dune Awakening will forgo the traditional subscription model. Instead, the game will thrive on optional paid DLC packs, launched alongside free updates.
These complimentary updates promise to bring enhancements to the game, packed with quality-of-life improvements, fresh features, and compelling storylines—everything a live service game needs to keep its players engaged. While the optional DLC content remains a bit of a mystery, players will be able to snag them individually or as part of a season pass, bundling multiple offerings into one neat package.
In a playful nod to eager early birds, Byros reveals that certain versions of the game will allow players to jump in five days ahead of the official launch. This early access begins on May 15 and doubles as a strategic move to “balance the server load,” ensuring a smooth and stable experience from day one—because, let’s face it, nothing deflates an MMO launch faster than server woes.
Accompanying this update is a detailed post on Steam, outlining the minimum and recommended PC requirements:
Minimum Requirements:
– OS: Windows 10 64-bit (or newer)
– Processor: Intel Core i5-7400, AMD Ryzen 3 1200
– Memory: 16 GB RAM
– Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB), AMD Radeon 5600XT (6GB)
– Storage: 60 GB available space
Recommended Requirements:
– OS: Windows 10 64-bit (or newer)
– Processor: Intel Core i7-10700K, AMD Ryzen 5 2600X
– Memory: 16 GB RAM
– Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (8GB), AMD Radeon 6700XT (12GB)
– Storage: 75 GB available space
The post also teases some exciting technical features PC players can explore, such as NVIDIA’s DLSS 4. Dune Awakening will be among the pioneers to integrate this tech, alongside AMD’s FSR, Intel’s XeSS 2, Razer Chroma RGB, and Razer Sensa HD Haptics. These enhancements should elevate both the visual and tactile gameplay experience.
What do you think of Funcom’s approach here? Personally, I’m finding the absence of yet another subscription refreshing. With so many services vying for attention (and money), I appreciate a game I can revisit at my own pace, much like Guild Wars 2. No complaints here!
Keep your eyes peeled for even more exciting announcements during a gameplay stream scheduled for March 24, as hinted at the end of the Steam blog post. We’re eager to hear if you’ll be diving into the sand dunes with us on May 20—or even sooner! Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
