In the wake of their impressive success with Cyberpunk 2077: The Board Game, where they raised a stunning $9.5 million, the team at Go On Board isn’t slowing down. Their newest venture aims to bring the beloved Tekken fighting game series into the world of tabletop gaming, using crowdfunding as their launchpad once again.
Tekken: The Board Game is set to capture the essence of its video game counterpart, focusing on psychology, strategic area control, and intricate combos. Designed for two players to battle it out, each will command a character with a distinctive set of skill cards. The key to victory lies in outsmarting your opponent, keeping your strategies close to the vest, and launching surprise attacks as you navigate the hexagonal board. Players can expect fast-paced matches ranging from 20 to 60 minutes in duration.
According to the developers, “Winning requires more than just landing punches. You must embody the distinctive playstyle of your chosen fighter, mastering their attack zones, unique combos, and devastating Rage moves—these can shift the tide of battle at any critical juncture. Players can also gain an edge by utilizing features adapted from the video game, such as Wall Break, Floor Break, and Wall Blast. Additionally, dynamic random events inspired by arena themes will challenge players’ strategic acumen.”
To add another dimension to the experience, Tekken: The Board Game will include a tournament mode supporting up to eight participants. While confirmed characters include the iconic father-son duo, Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama, supporters of the crowdfunding campaign will get an extra treat with Angel Jin, coming complete with its own miniature and set of cards.
