She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, much like many shows in Marvel’s Disney+ lineup, had a bit of a bumpy start in its first season. It struggled a bit to find its groove and establish a consistent rhythm. Granted, those surprise appearances from the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) were a treat—Daredevil’s cameo, in particular, was definitely worth the anticipation. However, these star-studded moments sometimes overshadowed the chance to further develop the main and supporting characters played by talented actors like Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, and Renée Elise Goldsberry.
Even so, when She-Hulk hit its stride, it offered a glimpse into the expansive and engaging world the MCU can provide. The show embraced its unique style, blending comedy and thoughtful commentary, even if its feminist themes occasionally felt a tad heavy-handed. It had a delightful mix of humor and clever storytelling that captured the essence of a real sitcom, not a surreal parody, shedding light on what everyday life might be like in a universe populated by Avengers.
Moreover, any issues, like the at-times questionable CGI, were easily overshadowed by the presence of Tatiana Maslany. Her exceptional talent brought a refreshing zest and playful spirit to both Jennifer Walters and her super-sized, green superhero persona. Her performance grounded the series, making it both enjoyable and memorable. [Mary Kate Carr]
