Developer Hanger 13 and publisher 2K accidentally spilled the beans on when their next big action-adventure game, Mafia: The Old Country, is coming out. Fans of this beloved series don’t have to wait much longer for the new installment.
Curious about the release date for Mafia: The Old Country on PS5?
A recent blog post by Hanger 13 on Steam mentioned that they are holding a developers’ panel at PAX East in Boston, MA, on May 8. The blog, in standard English, didn’t give away much more than the usual info you’d expect. But here’s where things get interesting: other language versions of the same post let slip the game’s release date, which is set for August 8, 2025. Those details were quickly removed, but not before the community took notice.
During the panel at PAX East, hosted by Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller, a new Gameplay Trailer will debut, along with some exclusive behind-the-scenes looks into the Mafia series’ past, present, and future. While the release date isn’t officially confirmed yet, there’s a good chance we’ll get an official announcement at this event. Attendees will also have a chance to ask questions to Studio President Nick Baynes, Game Director Alex Cox, and Cinematics Director Tomas Hrebicek during a Q&A session.
And for those showing up in person, there’s talk of a “little reward” for the dedicated fans who attend.
We first got a peek at Mafia: The Old Country during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, with a brief trailer that transported us back to its early 1900s Sicily setting.
The game’s description teases a gritty tale of mob conflicts: “Uncover the origins of organized crime in Mafia: The Old Country, a gritty mob story set in the brutal underworld of 1900s Sicily,” it reads. “Fight to survive as Enzo Favara and prove your worth to the Cosa Nostra in this immersive third-person action-adventure set during a dangerous, unforgiving era.”
This new game marks the fourth chapter in the Mafia series, following the original title that debuted in 2002, followed by sequels in 2010 and 2016.
