Flip Axis Studios, an indie developer specializing in XR, has made quite the announcement with their latest venture into VR gaming: a multiplayer skateboarding experience that’s set to roll out on Quest 3 and SteamVR. Titled Virtual Skate, this game aims to capture the thrill of real skateboarding, but without the worry of twisted ankles or the risk of injury.
Virtual Skate promises to push the boundaries of skateboarding games by offering players complete 3D control over their virtual feet, all manipulated directly by their hands. This isn’t just about mimicking skate motions; the game introduces a physics-based system that allows for crafting tricks and mastering moves in unique ways, far beyond the constraints of traditional animated sequences.
Details are still emerging, but the teaser gives us a sneak peek of a cool in-game recording feature, which could be perfect for capturing and sharing your friends’ impressive stunts in multiplayer mode.
Behind this promising title is Jon West, a seasoned professional with serious skate gaming credentials. As the co-founder of Easy Day Studios and the lead developer for Skater XL (released in 2020 for PC and console), his involvement brings a wealth of experience and excitement to the project.
While there’s no official release date just yet, the developers assure us that Virtual Skate will be available “soon” on both Quest 3 and SteamVR platforms. Until then, we’ll keep our ears to the ground for any updates. Whether it’s checking the game’s website for store links or joining the community chatter on their Discord, we’ll be on high alert for any word on official launch dates or potential beta testing opportunities.
