It’s been confirmed: 2XKO will offer an offline mode with all champions unlocked, which is fantastic news for grassroots tournament organizers. This update will certainly delight those interested in hosting events centered around the game but who aren’t exactly keen on the grind required to unlock every champion across several accounts.
This revelation came to light during a recent 2XKO community event in France. It happened during a group Q&A session when Tom Cannon, the executive producer, hesitated for a moment before deciding, “Yeah, why not,” and sharing the exciting details about the new mode.
“I understand it can be quite cumbersome to set up everything for a tournament,” Cannon explained. “We aim to make this as seamless as possible. We want organizers to have the capacity to host competitions without needing internet access or jumping through hoops just to unlock champions.”
“So this is our plan,” he continued with a chuckle. “We’re introducing the option to play offline. I hope I’m not giving too much away here! There’s going to be an easy way for tournament hosts to have all the champions available without the hassle of unlocking them individually. Though, do note you won’t have access to all content like skins. Nonetheless, this provides a straightforward way to facilitate offline competition play. That’s the unique edge we’re offering.”
Cannon emphasized their commitment to nurturing grassroots tournaments and expressed genuine interest in gathering feedback to optimize the experience further.
This feature is a game-changer for the dedicated community that holds competitive gaming close to heart. For a fighting game often reliant on online connectivity, this alleviates many hurdles tournament organizers face. Not needing to ensure a stable internet connection or bear hefty internet fees over a prolonged period is a massive relief. Additionally, sidestepping the grind to unlock each character on numerous accounts is invaluable for organizers, negating the tedious task of manually enabling new content to keep the game competitive.
However, this announcement leaves some questions unanswered regarding how this offline mode will coexist with Vanguard Anti-Cheat—Riot Game’s proprietary always-online security system. Vanguard, which activates when your computer boots up and maintains kernel-level oversight, typically cannot be disabled while playing Riot Games’ titles like League of Legends or Valorant. This raises questions about the offline mode’s deployment, especially if it’s launched using Riot Games’ launcher, as with the current 2XKO Alpha Lab tests.
Attempts to reach Riot Games for further clarification have been unsuccessful at the time of this article’s publication.
Regardless, this feature caters to the game’s dedicated community who are eager to engage in face-to-face competitions. However, it’s likely that this mode will remain exclusive and won’t be broadly accessible to all players, especially since 2XKO is a free-to-play game that relies on community support for its revenue. Hence, this offline mode is expected to be a special feature for certified tournament organizers.
As we await more insights and updates about this offline mode, I’d love to hear your thoughts. What do you think about the addition of this offline mode? Share your views below!
