During the recent ESO Direct livestream in 2025, the team behind The Elder Scrolls Online had plenty to share about the thrilling year ahead. They introduced the 2025 Content Pass and Premium Edition, unveiled the Seasons of the Worm Cult zone and storyline, teased an innovative in-game event, and discussed exciting new features for the base game. Are you curious about the details? Rich Lambert, the game director, and Susan Kath, the executive producer, are here to shed some light on the big announcements from the event.
Talk about a sequel ten years in the making! Rich Lambert comments, “This year, we wanted to craft a narrative that pays homage to ten amazing years of ESO. We’ve been contemplating a sequel to the original core game, and this seemed like the perfect chance. Players have consistently asked for something fresh, which we’ve taken to heart.”
In line with this feedback, the Seasons of the Worm Cult continues the saga of the base game, reintroducing Tamriel’s notorious villains, the Order of the Black Worm. This chapter not only revives past foes but also ushers in Solstice, a newly divided zone featuring the enigmatic Writhing Wall. This mystical barrier becomes the focal point in a new event slated for Q3/4, bridging the first and second parts of the Seasons storyline, and setting up an epic conclusion.
Susan Kath further explains, “We’re thrilled about the server-wide event that will shatter the Writhing Wall, where players’ collective efforts will shape the conflict’s outcome. While Solstice is part of the 2025 Content Pass, we haven’t left anyone out. Even players without access can take part in certain activities from mainland Tamriel.”
During the ESO Direct, they also announced the 2025 Content Pass and Premium Edition, marking the first time an entire year’s adventures are bundled together. Susan Kath clarifies, “This marks the evolution from our traditional yearly chapter model. The need for meticulous planning hindered our capacity to explore new ideas. Now, we’re more flexible, allowing innovations like the Cyrodiil Champions test, where players provided critical PvP data for a unique campaign.”
The 2025 Content Pass and Premium Edition are packed with content: Seasons of the Worm Cult Parts 1 and 2, dungeon packs, and the Writhing Wall event. It’s everything you need for the year ahead.
“The advantage for players this year is the continuous flow of new content,” Kath adds. “Rather than a single big June release with a long wait after, there’s always something to look forward to. 2025 is a year of transition, paving the way for more changes in 2026.”
Update 46 brings some big additions to the base game, such as the Subclassing system, a free update for everyone. Lambert shares his excitement, “Subclassing enhances your control over character progression without restarting, preserving the progress you’ve made.”
This system enables players to swap out two class skill lines, creating custom hybrid playstyles. Along with Subclassing, the Hero’s Return system will make rejoining the game after an absence smoother.
“We’re committed to making it easy for returning players to dive back in,” says Kath, emphasizing the importance of improving tutorials and early zones. “We’re also eager for community feedback to help guide our future developments.”
The Elder Scrolls Online is poised for remarkable advancements in 2025, offering fresh adventures and transformative changes. Don’t miss the chance to grab the 2025 Content Pass or Premium Edition from the PlayStation Store, which grants immediate access to the Fallen Banners dungeon pack. Mark your calendars for June 18 when the Seasons of the Worm Cult Part 1 launches on PS5 and PS4. See you in Tamriel!
