Schell Games and Innersloth have revealed a thrilling update for fans of “Among Us”—flatscreen support is on its way to Among Us VR, 2022. This means that PC players will soon be able to join their VR counterparts in game sessions, thanks to the newly announced crossplay feature.
The game isn’t just getting an upgrade in functionality; it’s getting a new name too. “Among Us VR” will be rebranded as “Among Us 3D,” marking the introduction of a first-person perspective for PC gamers—a first for the series.
Schell Games has confirmed that this new version, “Among Us 3D,” will empower players on PCs to dive into cross-platform sessions with VR gamers. This includes those using Quest, SteamVR, PSVR 2, and Pico headsets, ensuring an inclusive experience across all supported platforms.
However, it’s important to highlight that “Among Us 3D” won’t interact with the original 2D version of “Among Us” from 2018. Ever since “Among Us VR” was rolled out in November 2022, it has remained a distinct experience from the classic 2D gameplay.
Ryan Hall, the Project Director at Schell Games, expressed excitement about the upcoming changes: “With Among Us 3D, we’re thrilled to bring the first-person perspective to more players. Unifying VR and PC gamers means even more opportunities for sneaky betrayals and exciting gameplay with your friends—making it a whole crew event!”
In the coming months, players can look forward to the official rebranding taking place. This overhaul will include updates to store pages, websites, and in-game visuals, as communicated by the studios.
A notable addition on the horizon for “Among Us 3D” is the introduction of a new in-game currency, aptly named ‘Stardust.’ This currency will let players customize their avatars with cosmetic items and is designed to help fund ongoing game expansions.
Although a specific release date hasn’t been announced, fans might not have to wait too long. “Among Us 3D” is set to appear in Steam Next Fest, offering players an exclusive sneak peek with an early demo before the game officially launches.
