Assassin’s Creed Shadows invites players to immerse themselves in the vast landscapes of central Japan, where you’ll explore its captivating provinces for countless hours. Now, during those extensive journeys across the serene countryside, you can let your mind wander a bit more freely, thanks to the reintroduction of a helpful feature in the game’s first significant patch.
Released on Tuesday morning across all platforms, the version 1.0.2 update enhances the game’s “pathfinder” feature for your trusty steed. Now, your horse will automatically follow the roads, thanks to the game’s integrated turn-by-turn navigation, seamlessly guiding characters Naoe or Yasuke to their next destination. Fans of previous Assassin’s Creed titles like Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla might find it odd that this feature wasn’t initially available in Shadows. Although auto-follow is now set as the default, players who prefer manual control can still steer their mount themselves.
Another enhancement with this update is that the pathfinder’s GPS line won’t appear when you’re capturing the game’s beauty in photo mode. Plus, making your horse zip through cityscapes a bit faster has been addressed too.
A welcome update that players of Assassin’s Creed Shadows are sure to embrace is the ability to sell or dismantle loot in batches. You can now select multiple items from the shop or Forge screen and deal with them all at once. A trip to the Forge now also reveals that Ubisoft Québec has removed the frame rate limit in the Hideout, allowing gameplay to exceed 30 frames per second. Moreover, for those gaming on a PlayStation 5 Pro, the patch introduces PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution support, enhancing image quality through Sony’s upscaling technology.
The patch also brings along some improvements to the skill trees. You now have the option to reset individual Mastery nodes in the skill trees of Naoe and Yasuke. This adds flexibility, beyond the existing ability to reset an entire tree like Tools or Shinobi. On a similar note, there’s a handy new feature for navigating the menus — holding down the Options/Menu button swiftly takes you to the stylish objective board.
Interestingly, the v1.0.2 update leaves untouched the powerful legendary tanto, the Igan Sunset, along with its extraordinary perk. According to our own Tyler Colp, this allows Naoe to “freely ping-pong between enemies until they’re dead,” when combined with specific unlocked skills, a feature some might say verges on too powerful.
