Baldur’s Gate 3 made quite a splash in the gaming world in 2023, earning numerous Game of the Year accolades. Players have been thoroughly captivated by its immersive world and narrative depth. However, many have noted a few features they’d hoped for weren’t included—until now. Patch 8 is set to bring some of these much-anticipated elements to the table.
Looking ahead, Patch 8 marks the next significant update for this fan-favorite RPG, scheduled for an early release next year. Gamers can look forward to cross-play, a photo mode, and a dozen exciting new subclasses. The patch will hit all available platforms, so whether you’re team PS5 or any other console, you’re covered.
Cross-play stands out as a key addition in this update, as revealed in the Baldur’s Gate 3 Community Update. It will enable players across different platforms—be it PS5, PC, Xbox, or Mac—to connect and enjoy the game together. To use this feature, you’ll need to enable cross-play and set up a Larian Network account.
A photo mode is also debuting, opening new possibilities for players who love to capture their in-game adventures. This feature offers a range of camera settings to focus on specific characters, adjust lens settings, apply scene settings, and include post-processing effects, frames, and stickers for unique snapshots. You can use photo mode throughout your gameplay and during cutscenes, although certain camera and lens settings may not be adjustable during cinematics.
Also included in Patch 8 are 12 fresh subclasses, enhancing each existing class with new abilities, animations, visual effects, summons, and cantrips. Here’s a rundown of the new additions:
- Bard – College of Glamour
- Barbarian – Path of Giants
- Cleric – Death Domain
- Druid – Circle of Stars
- Paladin – Oath of the Crown
- Fighter – Arcane Archer
- Monk – Drunken Master
- Ranger – Swarmkeeper
- Rogue – Swashbuckler
- Sorcerer – Shadow Magic
- Warlock – Hexblade
- Wizard – Bladesinging
Larian Studios plans on running stress tests for Patch 8, and PS5 players eager to dive in can register ahead of testing, starting in January. More details will be unveiled in their next Community Update.
