Rumors are swirling that Battlefield 6 might reintroduce the Battle Royale mode, which first made its appearance in Battlefield 5. Although this mode wasn’t part of Battlefield 2042, its potential comeback in Battlefield 6 has fans buzzing with excitement.
Battlefield 2042 received mixed feedback from both players and critics, prompting the franchise to take a pause and refocus. EA recently announced Battlefield Labs, a new initiative inviting players to test upcoming installments and provide valuable input ahead of the game’s official release. Meanwhile, DICE has been hard at work improving Battlefield 2042 post-launch. Still, they know a successful initial release for Battlefield 6 is crucial to restoring the series’ reputation.
In response to speculation about a Battle Royale mode in Battlefield 6, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson gave a succinct “Yeah.” While Henderson didn’t offer any further details, the mere possibility adds anticipation. Battlefield’s knack for large-scale combat naturally aligns with the explosive nature of Battle Royale modes.
Should the rumors pan out, it wouldn’t be the series’ first foray into Battle Royale. Back in 2019, Battlefield 5 introduced Firestorm, a mode for 64 players that didn’t quite capture player interest. Despite its solid gameplay, Firestorm’s player cap and its integration with a full game purchase made it hard to compete against free-to-play alternatives. Although it skipped Battlefield 2042, revisiting the mode in Battlefield 6 with some tweaks could make this version more enticing.
Currently, there’s no official word from EA about when Battlefield 6 will hit the shelves. However, speculation has it that the game might feature Battlefield Portal, a beloved mode enabling players to craft custom experiences using elements from the franchise’s past games. Until official announcements are made, these rumors should be taken with caution. But one thing’s for sure: the Battlefield community is eagerly awaiting more news as the year unfolds.
