Bungie’s ‘Marathon’ Set for September Launch on Xbox, Closed Alpha Scheduled for This Month

Today, Bungie has given us an exciting glimpse into their upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon. We’ve finally got a good look at the gameplay, and it’s all set to make its debut on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on September 23rd, 2025.

In Marathon, you step into the shoes of a Runner—those cybernetic mercenaries outfitted with special abilities. Teaming up with up to three other players, you’ll face off against hostile AI security forces and rival Runner teams alike. As you journey through the game, you’ll gather weapons, implants, and other gear. Survive the chaos, and everything you collect goes with you into future missions.

Dive into the zone with your team, up to three strong, with the primary goal of grabbing as much loot as you can and making it out alive. You’ll encounter various threats, from AI-driven security to competing teams, and you’ll need a strategy to deal with all of them. Should you survive, the spoils of your run remain yours for the next adventure. If you’re the sort who enjoys a significant challenge, there’s an option to go it alone—take out entire teams single-handedly and leave with all the loot.
