SNEG has finally announced the much-anticipated release date for Captain Blood on the Nintendo Switch.
The game, which was originally set to hit Xbox 360 back in 2010, faced a series of setbacks. These hurdles were primarily due to the publisher’s bankruptcy, coupled with legal difficulties that barred the developers from launching it independently. Now, 15 years down the line, those issues have finally been put to rest.
In Captain Blood, players embark on a thrilling adventure triggered when a local magistrate’s daughter is abducted. Swallowing his pride, the magistrate turns to Captain Blood and his fearless crew for help. As "the manliest pirate captain ever," players will navigate a whirlwind of escapades brimming with cannon fire, pistol duels, sword fights, and a host of other pirate antics.
"This game is a nostalgic nod to a bygone era of gaming," says SNEG co-founder Artem Shchuiko. "Back then, you could enjoy a straightforward, engaging game over a single weekend and still have time to deliberate about next-gen console features. From the original development team to everyone at SNEG Ltd., a lot of love and commitment went into this revival. We believe both veteran gamers and newcomers alike have been yearning for an old-school pirate journey, and here it finally is!"
The developer has shared a glimpse into the game’s exciting features:
-
Epic Pirate Shenanigans: Step into the shoes of Captain Blood, a pirate life full of daring deeds on the Spanish Main — or at least, make it look that way!
-
Retro Gaming Vibes: Experience updated yet nostalgic Xbox 360-era graphics, complete with quick time events, preserving the game’s original charm.
-
Intense Action: Engage in fierce hand-to-hand battles, showcasing your combat prowess against rival pirates and landlubbers with a variety of stylish techniques.
