Incuvo’s 2022 VR adaptation of the well-loved open-world survival game, Green Hell, is finally gearing up to introduce its long-awaited co-op mode on Quest and PSVR 2 this month.
Having first been announced back in April 2023, this exciting feature is set to launch on December 16th. Players who own the game on PSVR 2 or Quest 2, 3, and 3S will be able to enjoy it without any extra cost.
The co-op mode adds a new dimension to the already challenging solo gameplay, allowing up to four players to band together. These teams can choose to wield melee or ranged weapons to hunt for food, protect each other from the jungle’s fierce predators, and construct shelters to shield against environmental threats. An interesting addition is that players needing healing will be visibly identifiable, helping teammates to assist, even to the point of spotting and removing leeches from each other.
However, it’s worth noting that this co-op update won’t support cross-play across different platforms. That means no PC-to-VR or Quest-to-PSVR2 gameplay. The studio explained in a social media post that their main focus was on developing the multiplayer update, and introducing cross-play would have extended the development timeline. Nevertheless, they hinted that it might be considered in the future.
Incuvo CEO Andrzej Wychowaniec expressed the studio’s enthusiasm for this update, emphasizing, “Bringing co-op to Meta Quest and PSVR2 is extremely important to our VR community, and we know they have been waiting for this feature since we first launched the game on those platforms. Still, we had to ensure it lived up to their expectations for an immersive, co-op survival experience.”
As for the PC VR version, there’s no confirmation yet on whether the co-op mode will be extended there, but prospects don’t seem promising. The PC version has not seen much love since late 2022, with the studio seemingly prioritizing content for Quest and PSVR 2, such as the ‘Spirits of Amazonia Part I’ expansion.
