Merciless as the Sea
Portia Maye’s life could have been ordinary and joyous, buoyed by her father’s warmth and the promise of sea adventures. But everything changed when her father’s ship, Nightsdream, fell prey to the infamous pirate Mad Molak, who left a trail of destruction and death in his wake.
Captured as a skilled navigator, Portia was pulled into a shadowy world of vengeance. She plotted an extraordinary retribution, steering the ship into the notorious Dragon’s Tooth, dragging her captors to the ocean floor. By sheer luck—or perhaps fate—she survived, finding solace only in her loyal dog, Snug.
Portia’s story could have been one of a classic survivor. She endured the massacre on Nightsdream and eked out survival marooned on Dragon’s Tooth. Yet, consumed by vengeance, her sole thought remained revenge, growing darker with time.
The Dragon’s Tooth, unbeknownst to Portia, was a Bleed—an intersection of dimensions where different realms merge. “That’s the risky aspect of Bleeds,” notes Jessi Thind, Lead Narrative Director. “If it doesn’t kill you, it drives you mad.”
Her journey through madness and mastery of violence transformed her into a Killer more brutal than Molak. Although her vengeance was eventually fulfilled, her place in The Entity’s realm had long been established. In this realm, she clings to her humanity through Snug, her ever-faithful protector, whose powers she channels to track and ensnare Survivors.
For The Black Talon
Taurie Cain grew up within the Black Talon, a sinister faction of the Black Vale, with a singular goal: uncover The Entity’s truths. Her parents discovered a Bleed and, tragically, ventured inside it to research further. Taurie followed them, unknowingly stepping into a life of devotion to a dark cause.
She quickly climbed the ranks in the Black Talon, unlike some who crossed paths with the Black Vale unwillingly. Taurie believed The Entity held the key to transcend beyond mortal bounds. “Raised among the Black Talon, Taurie genuinely thought her actions were for humanity’s good,” Thind elaborates. “But as she rose, the darkness deepened, leading her to a critical decision.”
Faced with a crucial task—to eliminate Jordan Rois, a problematic figure and stepbrother of Survivor Haddie Kaur—Taurie hesitated when the moment came. This decision, her last before entering The Fog, embodied a pivotal point.
In The Fog, Taurie discovered the grim reality that her fervent dedication had led her into an endless loop of agony. Despite this revelation, her will remained strong, believing her ultimate purpose awaited discovery. “Her unwavering faith could serve her in The Fog,” continues Thind. “Taurie’s convinced that everything’s part of a bigger plan, aiming to finally be acknowledged by The Entity as one of its disciples—a Killer.”
Why The Entity chose Taurie as a Survivor remains a mystery. “The Entity thrives on emotions,” Thind explains. Perhaps having Taurie, whose existence is rife with discord among other Survivors, is exactly what The Entity intended. Taurie channels anger and distrust, qualities The Entity can feed off.
Regardless of the challenges, Taurie adapts, leveraging her skills to navigate the dark terrains, drawing the Killer’s focus instead and turning pain into advantage.
It’s fascinating how both Portia and Taurie encountered the Bleeds, yet Taurie seemed largely unfazed. Under different circumstances, their roles in The Entity’s Realm might’ve reversed. But once a path is tread, there’s no turning back, especially when it leads into the haunting depths of The Fog…
