Devolver Digital is once again embracing its quirky side with the latest installment of the Devolver Delayed Awards. This time, they’re shining a humorous spotlight on three much-anticipated games that have been pushed back to 2025.
True to Devolver’s style, the event is laden with a hearty dose of sarcasm, as the publisher playfully lauds its developers for bravely opting to push their release dates into the next fiscal year. Without further ado, let’s unveil the winners and the (entirely fictitious) nominees:
– Best Inadvertent Tripping Simulator
– Best Late-Stage Capitalism Roguelite
– Best Glass Demon in a Leading Role
Aside from these amusingly fabricated categories, featuring games that sadly aren’t real (though I’d be first in line for Windshield Repair Simulator), the awards also included heartfelt speeches from the developers behind the real, delayed projects. These games, now postponed to 2025, have fans eagerly waiting. And in case you were wondering, Sam Eng from Skate Story had a bit of bad luck himself, having suffered an arm injury—so maybe cut the game some slack for its delay.
In a nod to their cheeky tradition, Devolver pulled a similar stunt back in 2023 with a clever parody of the Nintendo Direct style. The previous year’s Devolver Delayed Showcase unabashedly announced the postponement of titles like The Plucky Squire, Stick It to the Stickman, Anger Foot, Pepper Grinder, and Skate Story.
While it can undeniably be frustrating to deal with these kinds of delays from a commercial angle, it’s commendable that Devolver chooses to prioritize quality over rushing out unfinished products for a quick profit. It’s refreshing to see them granting developers the space and time they need to truly bring their visions to life.
Checking in on Devolver Digital’s official website reveals other intriguing titles still in the pipeline, such as Possessor(s), Tenjutsu, Human Fall Flat 2, and Forestrike, none of which have official release dates as of yet.
