Recently, Marvel found itself in the spotlight when posters accompanying the initial trailer for “Fantastic Four: First Steps” faced accusations of being AI-generated. However, Marvel is standing firm, denying such claims.
As technology keeps advancing, distinguishing between AI-generated images and authentic creations is getting trickier by the day. It used to be that if an image looked off, you could safely bet on it being a botched Photoshop job. But now, whenever something doesn’t look quite right, people immediately wonder, “Is this AI at play?” This was precisely the buzz this week when two posters for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” debuted alongside the trailer. Take a glance at them, and you might see why speculation arose.
In one poster, a woman’s face appears twice among the crowd, and a character brandishing a large Fantastic Four flag mysteriously only displays four fingers—missing fingers are often a giveaway of AI generation. The light in these images also seems unnaturally peculiar. Nevertheless, a Marvel representative assured The Hollywood Reporter that the posters did not employ AI. Assuming that’s accurate, it begs the question: why do they look so lackluster?
Perhaps this reflects a broader issue: Marvel cutting corners despite having the budget to do much better. It’s odd, considering the trailer gives off a different vibe with what appears to be real sets instead of over-reliance on green screens, marking a refreshing change after a while. Given the repeated face appearing so identically, it feels more like an unfortunate Photoshop slip-up rather than an AI faux pas. However, it does throw into question the quality expectations for the upcoming Marvel releases—why skimp on even the smallest details?
In any case, we’ll have to wait until July 25 to see if the final movie delivers what fans truly hope for.
