EA Sports FC 25 has just rolled out its substantial new update called First Frost, signaling a wave of changes as we head into the festive season. This update introduces exciting new features and aims to address a host of player grievances.
Releasing significant updates during this time of year isn’t new to EA, as they’ve previously launched quirky red and blue characters to showcase updates in EA Sports FC 24’s holiday patch. However, unless they surprise us later today, those playful robo-ballers seem to be sitting out this season.
In a pitch notes post about the First Frost update, EA mentions its aim to “address community feedback across most areas of the game while introducing fresh strategies and personalization.” This comprehensive update includes tweaks and new additions that fans have been eagerly anticipating.
Leading the update are two new FC IQ player roles and several revamped roles. You can now play as a “Classic 10” CAM, focusing on attack as the primary playmaker, or as a “Wide Half” CDM, a defensive player covering the sides and contributing to build-up play.
Additional content will unfold with server releases and squad updates accompanying the First Frost launch. Expect new Ultimate Team player items, Max Tactics, and Winter Match house rules modes for UT friendlies, and two new celebrations inspired by Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dusan Vlahović. Plus, there’s a festive main menu theme to get you in the holiday spirit.
That’s not all, though. Numerous modes and general gameplay have been tweaked based on player feedback. For instance, Ultimate Team’s Rush matches are now trimmed to five minutes from seven. Gameplay enhancements like better defensive logic, quicker offside recognition by AI attackers, and more forgiving skill moves for players with two-star skills aim to enhance the gaming experience.
EA is also investigating other aspects such as corner scoring, first-time power shots, lobbed through passes, and jog dribbles for future updates. Clubs and career modes see changes too, with new double XP events and facilities for clubs, alongside youth player development adjustments in career mode.
