Craving some fresh content in Pokémon TCG Pocket? Well, here’s some exciting news: a brand new expansion is set to launch next week, and it’s bringing along a booster pack that offers you the chance to snag a Mew.
As revealed in a recent tweet from the game’s official account, this expansion is called Mythical Island and will be available starting Tuesday, December 17. The TCG Pocket social media team cheekily mentioned, “I went to great lengths to get you this info. Truthfully, I just asked really nicely and maybe shed a few tears.”
If you check out the trailer below, you’ll notice there’s a whole host of new cards coming your way. Among them are the ex versions of Mew, Aerodactyl, and Celebi, all of which can be found in the new Mythical Island booster pack. This addition is a welcome change, especially if you’re overstocked with Doduos—or is it Dodui? Either way, it’s a refreshing option.
“The Mythical Island expansion introduces over 80 cards,” the trailer’s description highlights, “including five new exciting Pokémon ex cards, five new Trainer cards, and wonderfully detailed immersive cards ready to transport you into the enchanting world of Pokémon.”
Additionally, there are fresh binder and display board covers featuring the scenic views of Mythical Island. Perfect for sending your Pokémon on an imaginary holiday—or at least making them feel like they’re on one, which matches Pokémon’s quirky theme of whimsical zookeeping. Just don’t ponder too long about the ethical implications of these mythical creatures in card battles, as it might muddle the fun a bit.
Do Pokémon genuinely enjoy being these seemingly eternal beings, enslaved and thrown into card colosseums for battles? Your guess is as good as mine. However, with The Pokémon Company’s recent announcement that TCG Pocket has surpassed 60 million downloads, there’s clearly a lot of enthusiasm out there. I wouldn’t want to upset that many fans, including myself—besides, it’s quite the meta conundrum.
