It looks like EA and Maxis have a sweet surprise ready for fans of classic Sims games in celebration of their 25th anniversary. Those rumors about re-releasing the first two Sims games? Well, they’re true, and as of today, they’re hitting the shelves.
There was talk that EA planned to make these games digitally available for PC by the end of January—pretty much now—and indeed, they launched them on January 31, right at the week’s close. Perfect timing, wouldn’t you say?
Now, those looking to snag these classic titles can find them on the EA app, Epic Games Store, and Steam. They’re being released under The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection. You can also get them bundled together in a special Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.
In their announcement, EA expressed, “In celebrating our journey and showing appreciation for our incredible fans, we’re re-releasing two beloved titles that feature familiar neighborhoods and characters you loved—like the elusive burglar, the quirky genie, and Sunny the Tragic Clown—who kicked things off. Dive back into the nostalgia and magic of the classics that welcomed many of you to our fantastic community.”
On to the part everyone wants to know about—the pricing. You can grab the bundle for $39.99, The Sims: Legacy Collection for $19.99, and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection for $29.99. Each game includes most of its original expansion packs; however, fans may notice the absence of The Sims 2’s IKEA Home Stuff pack.
Though missing out on the IKEA pack might be a bummer, you still get two different holiday packs with the game, as well as the H&M Fashion Stuff pack, which adds a bit of brand flair. For those looking to extend their Sims 4 collection, you’ll be happy to hear that the Throwback Fit Kit comes bundled with the original Sims, while the Grunge Revival Kit accompanies The Sims 2.
So, if you’re still lazing around the quirky “meme jacuzzi” on the odd Sims Y2K website EA whipped up for this celebration, it might be time to towel off your meme-covered back and dive into these re-releases. Whether you’re revisiting or discovering them for the first time, there’s plenty to enjoy!
