Virtuix has just dropped some exciting news for virtual reality enthusiasts and travel lovers alike. They’re launching an immersive tourism app exclusively for their cutting-edge Omni One VR treadmill system, which offers users the unique opportunity to virtually stroll through some of the globe’s most famous locations.
Set to debut on March 6th, "TREKS" combines stunning immersive video with physical movement, essentially transporting you to awe-inspiring places like the breathtaking Grand Canyon, the lively expanse of New York’s Central Park, or the historic corridors of Riyadh’s Fort Masmak. This intriguing app, crafted by Virtuix Studios, will be available only on the Omni One Game Store for $30.
Upon launch, "TREKS" is primed to introduce explorers to four captivating destinations:
- Grand Canyon: Wander the scenic trails and marvel at the breathtaking cliff vistas of this geological wonder.
- Niagara Falls: Get up close and personal with the roaring falls from both the American and Canadian perspectives.
- New York City: Embark on a tour of iconic spots like the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Central Park, and the iconic Brooklyn Bridge.
- Saudi Arabia: Dive into the deep history of Fort Masmak and soak in the architectural beauty of Al Rajhi Mosque.
Virtuix Studios isn’t stopping there—they plan to roll out additional locations as downloadable content in the months ahead, promising more landmarks, historical sites, and natural beauties to explore. Notably, they claim that an hour spent walking in "TREKS" burns about 500 calories, merging exercise and exploration beautifully.
"With TREKS, you’re not just seeing these places—you’re stepping right into them," shared Virtuix’s CEO, Jan Goetgeluk. "It’s an exceptional way to stay fit while virtually visiting some of the world’s most iconic landmarks. Fitness and exploration are intertwined here, offering an experience like no other."
The Omni One package, priced at $3,495, features the VR treadmill itself and a tailor-made Pico 4 Enterprise headset, designed to support native apps through its internal chipset or connect to a VR-ready PC, either wired or wirelessly.
This development trails an earlier announcement highlighting that Omni One now supports over 55 games, including popular titles like "Arizona Sunshine Remake," "Arizona Sunshine 2," and "Into The Radius."
Moreover, the Omni One’s system isn’t just limited to its native store; it’s also compatible with SteamVR games. Thanks to the Omni Connect PC Driver, users can craft custom bindings and tweak settings, allowing games not initially built for immersive walking to be enjoyed seamlessly.
