Uh-oh, trouble is brewing in Helldivers 2 as the dreaded Meridia black hole finally made good on its threat, obliterating the planet Angel’s Venture. This catastrophe had been looming over us, and now it’s a grim reality. With Arrowhead putting out the word, it’s time for a somber reflection on the citizens lost to this cosmic disaster.
As everyone expected, Angel’s Venture was on a crash course with doom, with evacuation orders ringing loud and clear. And then, there it went, snuffed out in a colossal display by a massive purple singularity that decided it was time for the planet to go off the cosmic grid.
A tweet from Arrowhead, complete with a gripping news snippet, broke the sad news to those who didn’t witness the destruction firsthand. They didn’t mince words, pointing the finger at the Illuminate, exposing them as purveyors of havoc hiding behind a facade of intellect and sophistication. In response, the President of Super Earth has proclaimed a 24-hour mourning period across the galaxy.
This has got to be a low for any helldiver, despite the visual spectacle it offered. The loss is profound. Over on Reddit, a user going by ‘DickBallsley’ had somewhat optimistically assured folks that they wouldn’t let the inevitable happen. But, following the disaster, they owned up with a fresh post, confessing, “I might have overdone it. Going all out wasn’t my best move. Next time, I’ll pay a bit more attention.”
Unsurprisingly, fellow divers have rolled out the classic Obi-Wan Kenobi ‘You were the chosen one’ GIF in response.
But as we sit here in mourning, know this: the fight is far from over. The menacing Meridian Singularity is now setting its sights on Super Earth, threatening to gobble up several more planets along its route. The next mission objective seems almost certain—find a way to halt its progress while defending against impending Illuminate assaults. Let’s just hope this second round fares better than the last disaster.
