Lies of P stands out as a remarkable Soulslike game not crafted by FromSoftware, and its intriguing spin on the Pinocchio tale amazed players, especially with its unexpected post-credits twist. However, in a recent revelation, director Ji-won Choi mentioned that the upcoming Overture expansion won’t delve further into that surprising appearance.
During a chat with IGN at the Game Developers Conference, Choi remained tight-lipped about any details concerning the planned sequel, urging fans to, “Please stay tuned for additional announcements in the future.” There was no indication from IGN if Choi’s nose underwent any changes during this conversation, naturally adding a cheeky nod to the character of Pinocchio.
For those wary of spoilers, this is your signal to cease reading. You’ve been officially cautioned.
Beyond its fairy-tale roots, Lies of P is peppered with nods to other literary classics. Throughout the game, you’ll catch references to The Picture of Dorian Gray, Beauty and the Beast, Frankenstein, and Sherlock Holmes. However, the post-credits scene, where The Wizard of Oz’s Dorothy Gale emerges as a pivotal character in the unfolding saga, undoubtedly left the biggest impression on players.
This revelation wasn’t entirely unexpected, given that Neowiz describes Overture as a “dramatic prequel,” setting the stage in the city of Krat during its last days. Choi did drop a hint during his IGN interview, suggesting fans might want to replay Lies of P before diving into Overture.
“When you revisit the base game, you’ll notice many clues we’ve cleverly woven into the entire journey,” Choi explained. “These hints, these glimpses into the world, will become more apparent in the expansion. Many aspects I wanted to explore initially couldn’t make it into the base game, but key elements of those will definitely feature in the expansion.”
