Meta has made waves with its recent announcement of a multiyear collaboration with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), stepping in as the ‘Official Fan Technology Partner.’ What this boils down to is an exciting opportunity for enhanced integration of UFC’s electrifying mixed martial arts events across Meta’s various platforms, including Quest.
The UFC has expressed its eagerness to tap into Meta’s cutting-edge technologies for a more immersive fan experience, promising to engage its millions of followers worldwide through tools like Meta AI, Meta Glasses, Meta Quest, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads.
In a fascinating twist, Meta is also set to become the UFC’s ‘Official AI Glasses Partner,’ working closely with the organization to creatively incorporate AI glasses into the thrilling environments of UFC events.
“I have teamed up with some incredible partners over the years to elevate our sport, but what Mark and his crew at Meta are going to do is next-level,” shared UFC President and CEO Dana White. “Meta’s team comprises some of the brightest minds in tech, poised to revolutionize fan engagement. We’re already brainstorming on innovations like a novel fighter rankings system, which I’ll reveal soon. This partnership is a game changer for our sport’s enthusiasts.”
Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s founder and CEO, has openly shown his appreciation for the sport, even participating in Jiu Jitsu competitions, making this collaboration not just strategic but also personal. “The opportunity to reimagine fan experience for this sport I love is thrilling,” he noted.
Adding to the strategic partnership, Dana White joined Meta’s board of directors earlier this year, alongside notables like John Elkann of Exor and tech investor Charlie Songhurst.
Although specific details regarding how this partnership will enrich the Quest platform remain sparse, Meta has hinted at integrating UFC content through various channels. This includes prominent brand placements in the Octagon, features in broadcasts, and creating engaging in-arena experiences for fans. Meta’s social media platform Threads is also set to be part of this initiative, showcasing exclusive UFC content.
Previously, in 2022, UFC and Meta collaborated to stream 180-degree Fight Pass livestreams to Horizon Worlds, Quest’s social VR platform, along with the Xtadium app. With this new deal in place, an expansion in licensing and visibility of UFC matches across Quest seems likely.
Stay tuned, as more information about this exciting partnership is expected to be unveiled soon.
