Microsoft recently announced that the latest Windows 11 update, version 24H2, has unintentionally disrupted several popular Ubisoft games like Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Gamers are finding their experiences unexpectedly interrupted, which is understandably frustrating.
According to VGC, Microsoft has updated its support website to explain this issue and has temporarily halted Windows 11 updates for users with these specific games installed.
“We’ve discovered that after installing Windows 11, version 24H2, some users may face problems with select Ubisoft titles,” Microsoft elaborated. “These problems might manifest as the games failing to respond during startup, loading, or even while players are deep into the action.”
“In some cases,” they continued, “players could be met with a dreaded black screen. The games identified as affected include Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.”
To address this, Microsoft has set up a compatibility hold. This means that devices with these Ubisoft games installed won’t receive the Windows 11 version 24H2 update through the usual Windows Update channel, at least for the time being. This measure aims to ensure users do not accidentally compromise their gaming experience.
On a related note, Ubisoft did release an update through its Title Update 1.4 for Star Wars Outlaws, aiming to tackle these performance hiccups. Nonetheless, Microsoft cautions that issues might still persist. They haven’t yet provided an exact timeline for a complete fix, so players are advised to steer clear of the 24H2 update for their PCs whenever possible.
