Microsoft just wrapped up its 50th-anniversary celebrations this past Friday, April 4, and it seems like the festivities are still going strong.
Over on the Surface Instagram page, they unveiled the 50th Anniversary Exclusive Microsoft Surface Laptop. Let me tell you, it was love at first sight for me.
This sleek machine comes in a matte black finish, a classic choice, but it’s the gold logo on the back and the nostalgic 1975 Microsoft logo engraved near the keyboard that truly stand out. The whole look is completed with a matching black and gold wallpaper. It’s a subtle nod to those in the know, and it’s definitely won my seal of approval.
Previously, we’ve given Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 7, powered by Qualcomm’s processor, a glowing review, even declaring it “the best laptop, period.”
### How to Get Your Hands on the 50th Anniversary Exclusive Microsoft Surface Laptop
Here’s the catch: these special edition laptops aren’t for sale. They’re free, but winning one is the challenge. Microsoft is hosting a contest that’s announced via their Instagram page. Here are the steps to enter:
1. Snap a photo of your Surface device while on the move.
2. Share why you love your Surface in the caption.
3. Ensure you’re following @Surface on Instagram.
4. Include the hashtags #Microsoft50SurfaceSweepstakes and #Microsoft50 in your post.
You have until April 16th at 11:59 PT to enter, but note that it’s open only to participants in the US and Puerto Rico. It’s a pity these aren’t directly available for purchase. If there’s enough interest, perhaps Microsoft could be convinced to make them more widely available, despite possible tariff issues.
### What’s Under the Hood: Intel or Qualcomm?
Another intriguing question is what’s powering these laptops. Microsoft usually offers Intel processors for their business laptops and Qualcomm for consumer models. Given the contest’s consumer focus, they might just have the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor, but we’ll have to wait and see.
I’m also trying to find out more about its specifications, such as the screen size (either 13.8 or 15 inches), RAM, and storage. It would be exciting if this model came equipped with 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. For the truly demanding users, Microsoft.com has an even more impressive version with 64GB of RAM, which, while probably overkill for most, would be something to experience.
The two sizes, 13.8-inch and 15-inch, might look quite similar at first glance, but a closer look at the photos on Microsoft’s Instagram suggests it’s the smaller model. Personally, I prefer the more compact option, especially given the detailing like the touchpad and key spacing.
### What’s Next?
There’s a buzz that Windows Central might soon take a closer look at this anniversary edition Surface Laptop, giving us an in-depth look at its features and design.
Even if you don’t win one, at least you might be able to check out all its details soon.
Stay tuned for more updates!
