A pair of avid Pokémon enthusiasts have brought the Kanto region to life within the pixelated world of Minecraft. Although Pokémon and Minecraft might seem like worlds apart, this meticulous recreation of Kanto fits surprisingly well within the distinctive blocky universe of Mojang’s beloved game.
The Pokémon series, with its numerous generational regions, all began in Kanto. This origin holds a special place in many fans’ hearts, often sparking nostalgia. Fans frequently pay homage to Kanto through various forms of fan art. Recently, two dedicated fans chose Minecraft as their medium to express their admiration for this iconic region.
Posting their impressive work on Reddit, a user who goes by The_Shador shared images of the painstakingly detailed recreation, done with the help of their brother. These screenshots reveal a stunning rendition of Kanto’s cities and landscapes. The brothers included well-known locations like Viridian City, Pewter City, and Cerulean City, in addition to iconic natural features such as Viridian Forest and Mt. Moon, all crafted with careful attention to detail.
In their Reddit post, The_Shador detailed the process behind their ambitious project. They explained how they used various Minecraft mods to assist in bringing Kanto to life. The Pixelmon mod, essential for incorporating Pokémon-themed content, played a pivotal role. The project spanned over a year, and the brothers’ collaboration was limited to just the two of them.
The online community has vividly responded to their effort, with their Reddit post amassing numerous upvotes. In the comments, users expressed curiosity about the time and effort required to accomplish such a daunting task. The_Shador clarified that it took a whole year to recreate Kanto. Unfortunately, due to the complexity of the mods used, the world isn’t available for download. However, they did share a lengthy YouTube video walking through their virtual creation.
Given Minecraft’s versatility, it’s no wonder other Pokémon fans have also used it as a canvas for their creations. One notable project includes a player constructing towering statues of Groudon and Kyogre. With Pokémon Legends Z-A focusing on Kalos, it remains to be seen if The_Shador or other talented fans will be inspired to craft similar tributes in Minecraft.
