Thunder Ray: Forgotten Duels introduces fresh challenges for Thunder Ray fans on the Nintendo Switch. Here’s everything you need to know from our deep dive into this exciting DLC!
When I first played Thunder Ray on the Switch, I was captivated by its intergalactic odyssey, thanks to Purple Tree and Purple Play’s creative storytelling. So, when I heard about the Forgotten Duels DLC, which shifts focus to Thunder Ray’s earlier bouts with human adversaries, I had to jump in. This DLC delves into his ascent as a formidable boxer, offering a neat backstory to the main 2023 release of Thunder Ray.
Upon entering the world of Forgotten Duels, players face off against a roster of vibrant human boxers, realized through charming hand-drawn animations. This pack pits you against opponents like Uncle Slam, Bayar Kahn, and the climactic challenge of Hunter Callahan, the DLC’s final boss. With only three matches to tackle, remember it’s a content pack, not a full game expansion. It complements the core game, which is priced at $14.99 and features eight unique foes to test your boxing prowess!
In terms of gameplay, the DLC sticks to the basics. You’ll maneuver Thunder Ray using the left analog stick or D-Pad, dodging punches with well-timed left or right movements. Ducking can be your saving grace by precisely pressing down at the right time. Blocking incoming attacks is also an option, but precision is key, or else you might find yourself eating your opponent’s glove.
Attack strategies include left and right body shots via the B and A buttons, and jabs executed with Y and X. Your punches pack more of a punch when utilizing the L and R buttons for charging your left and right fists. Once you’ve filled up your Super bar displayed at the bottom of the screen, a simultaneous press of L and R will unleash a devastating Super Attack, possibly turning the fight in your favor!
Forgotten Duels is all about pitting yourself against those lively, animated human challengers, like Uncle Slam and others, culminating in the thrilling showdown with Hunter Callahan. Available for just $4.99, this DLC is a great add-on, or you can opt for the Thunder Ray Origins package at $19.98, which includes the main game and DLC, for the full experience.
