Nintendo fans got a treat today with some exciting news about the next big thing after the Switch.
During their Corporate Management Policy briefing, following the release of their Q2 2024-25 results, Nintendo unveiled that whatever the successor to the Switch might be called, it’s going to fully support current Switch games. Plus, your Nintendo Switch Online subscription will continue seamlessly on the new device.
At the briefing, Furukawa shared, “Today, we’ve revealed that our upcoming console will allow users to play Nintendo Switch titles. Moreover, Nintendo Switch Online services will transfer to this new platform. Details on how the new console supports Switch games will be provided in the future.” – a statement shared on Nintendo Co Ltd’s Twitter.
Now, whether this means you’ll have digital backward compatibility or you’ll be able to pop in your physical Switch game cartridges, much like how the 3DS could handle DS games, remains a mystery for now. More clarity on this will be coming soon.
