As the festive season draws near, the ID@Xbox team is buzzing with excitement to present this month’s Indie Selects. But before we dive into our top picks, we really want to say a big thank you for your unwavering support of indie games on Xbox throughout the year. Indie Selects serves as our special way to showcase those wonderfully quirky and unique creations. Not every great game has to be a big-name blockbuster; it might be a touching, well-crafted narrative, a fresh twist on an old concept, or just something intriguingly out of the ordinary. We appreciate you taking the time to explore our recommendations and for being a part of this amazing creative community.
And speaking of recommendations, this December, instead of a week-long selection, we’re rolling out a 3-week showcase for 2024 Indie Select Highlights. Starting on December 11, every Wednesday, we’ll be spotlighting a selection of 18 standout titles that graced our platform this past year. So, make sure to visit the Indie Selects section in the Xbox Store (just head to the Games Home tab and scroll down a little) to check out these must-play indie gems.
Fast forward to January 28, 2025, and we’re marking the first anniversary of this initiative with a special 2024 Anniversary Collection. We’ll be curating a selection of six top-tier Indie Selects from last year that we believe everyone must experience, placing them in a special showcase for all to explore. While we have plenty of exciting plans, sales, and new collections lined up for 2025, right now we’re all about enjoying the present.
November has been an incredible month, crammed with unforgettable titles that stretch the limits with innovative designs, intriguing mechanics, and compelling storytelling. Despite our varied preferences, the selection we compiled was enough to get everyone behind it. Whether it’s seeking out spooky thrills to get the heart racing or building a connection with a gigantic, rideable wolf for the next big adventure, we’ve brought together a list that we hope will leave a lasting impression. Here’s what we’re bringing to you this month (and in no specific order):

Neva is one of those games that can really pull at your heartstrings. Last weekend, I was blown away by its stunning visuals, captivating soundscapes, and the emotional journey it encouraged. Created by the talented team behind Gris, Nomada Studio has truly honed their craft with Neva. It’s a short, five-hour experience complete with platforming and combat mechanics, but those hours are filled with heartfelt moments that will connect you to its core.
Neva allows for different gameplay styles too. If the challenges get tough, you can switch to “Story Mode,” which removes health bar constraints, letting you focus on the narrative without worrying about failing. Available on Xbox now from Devolver Digital for $19.99.

Animal Well immerses you in a beautifully rendered 2D pixel world filled with intricate puzzles and lively, sometimes mysterious, creatures. As a squishy blob navigating this eerie world, you slowly unravel the environment’s secrets. The story unfolds without direct combat, requiring you to creatively maneuver through the game’s many puzzles and challenges.
Animal Well invites you to dive deep into its world with heroes and tensions that seem as alive as your own character. It’s available now from Bigmode for $24.99.

Planet Coaster 2 is where creativity and strategy blend seamlessly to bring your dream theme park to life. With detailed graphics and engaging mechanics, it’s hard not to get hooked from the get-go. Not only do you construct vibrant rides and attractions, but you’re also tasked with managing every park aspect, from staff to finances.
The real joy here, however, is sharing your creations online – and discovering those of others. Whether you’re an experienced park manager or just getting started, Planet Coaster 2 offers a thrilling mix of collaboration and creativity. Get ready to unleash your inner theme park architect through Frontier Developments for $49.99.

In Phasmophobia, you’re not just playing a game; you’re stepping into a chilling ghost-hunting experience. The thrill comes from identifying the type of ghost haunting several locations, without any means to defend yourself. Everything hinges on gathering clues while avoiding the supernatural danger hot on your heels. This game is available for Xbox as part of a Game Preview for $19.99 and is perfect for bringing some hair-raising fun to your hangouts with friends.

Fear the Spotlight takes you back to the ’90s horror experience with a gripping story revolving around the search for a missing friend in a school haunted by a mysterious entity. Engage in stealthy puzzle-solving as you uncover the mystery behind a decades-old tragedy. This game is made by Blumhouse Games and costs $19.99.

Slay the Princess isn’t your typical love story. It’s an intriguing, chilling visual novel where each decision guides you through various narrative twists. Your interactions shape the story, inviting new voices and continually altering your experience. The game’s art and music are as haunting as its storyline, making it an enthralling journey you’ll keep coming back to. Available now from Serenity Forge for $17.99.
Whether it’s heartfelt narratives, creative strategy, or exhilarating horror experiences, the indie game scene on Xbox promises endless adventures and unforgettable stories. We can’t wait for you to explore!
