At CES 2025, NVIDIA came forward with exciting news: they’re expanding their GeForce NOW cloud gaming platform to include Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3 and 3S, and Pico headsets.
Now, before you get too excited about diving into VR-native games via the cloud, hold on. This update isn’t about adding VR cloud gaming capabilities. Instead, GeForce NOW will provide access to the standard games you usually enjoy on Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and handheld gaming devices.
For those sporting Vision Pro, Quest 3/S, and Pico gear, game streaming through GeForce NOW will be available directly in browsers with the onset of the 2.0.70 update, which is slated for release later this month, according to NVIDIA.
Once live, NVIDIA promises that users will get “all the bells and whistles of NVIDIA technologies,” like ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS. Plus, the GeForce NOW experience on these VR headsets will feature gamepad-compatible titles displayed on a massive virtual screen.
What makes NVIDIA’s service particularly appealing is that it offers a tiered access model. Users can enjoy limited access for free, or opt for enhanced, higher-resolution gaming through various daily passes and monthly subscription plans. The service currently boasts a library of over 2,000 games.
It’s worth noting that NVIDIA isn’t blazing this trail alone. Back in 2022, Pluto VR introduced a cloud gaming service for standalone VR devices. The service, known as PlutoSphere, was available on Quest for a while but got pulled from the store in early 2024 as a part of Meta’s clampdown on unapproved cloud streaming services.
Subsequently, Microsoft stepped in with its Xbox Cloud Gaming and Game Pass library, which gained approval to launch on the Quest at the tail end of 2023.
