Hey there! I’m Oli, the game director at Kaizen Game Works, the team behind Paradise Killer. I’m really excited to let you know that our playable demo for the new open-world mascot management crime drama, Promise Mascot Agency, is available now on PS5!
I’ve got to tell you, we’ve spent ages working on this game, and everyone on the team is absolutely thrilled for PlayStation players to finally dive in. Let’s be real; the PS5 is simply fantastic. Kaizen members are all about PlayStation, having grown up with the original PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4. Personally, I have a collection of PlayStation and PS2 games, and that era has been a major influence on the design of Promise Mascot Agency.
I’m a big fan of PS2 games where you can hang out and do cool stuff. Have you ever tried Way of the Samurai, Raw Danger, Boku No Natsuyasumi, or Steambot Chronicles? If not, you must! They offer a chill space to meet interesting characters, make meaningful choices, and explore at your pace. That’s exactly the vibe we wanted to capture—a fun world full of mysteries, quirky people, secrets, engaging gameplay, and a perfect atmosphere.
In Promise Mascot Agency, you’ll step into the shoes of Michi, an exiled yakuza lieutenant. Together with the mischief-loving Pinky, you’ll aim to save a bankrupt mascot agency and unravel the underworld conspiracy that got Michi sent to a cursed coastal town in Japan. This place, Kaso-Machi, is packed with oddballs who can’t find jobs elsewhere. Michi’s mission is to create a new family of mascots, help them fulfill their dreams, and rescue both the agency and his yakuza family.
Kaso-Machi is a town shrouded in a supernatural curse, with a mountain that’s a playground for spirits and gods. Superstition and occult stories permeate this place. Throughout the game, Michi can investigate ghost sightings, rogue sin talismans, and the legendary Tsuchinoko creature. However, there’s a ticking clock; the town’s curse threatens the lives of any visiting yakuza. Can Michi crack the conspiracy and save the agency before the curse takes his life?
We kicked off this project four years ago, collaborating with Ikumi Nakamura and Mai Mattori to craft the characters and world. By blending Kaizen’s style with Nakamura’s distinct touch, we’ve created a game that feels bizarre, nostalgic, and utterly unique. Being a western company, we partnered with Japanese artists, musicians, and creatives to bring authenticity and vibrant life to our world. We often stepped back, allowing our team to infuse their own experiences, which has enriched the game with varied influences and real-world touches.
Recently, we announced some of our voice actors, including the legendary Takaya Kuroda, known for his role as Kiryu Kazuma, voicing Michi. We never imagined we’d feature voice acting, let alone have Kuroda-san casually attend auditions! His partnership with Ayano Shibuya as Pinky forms a wonderful buddy-cop dynamic. The game showcases incredible voice talent, marking first-time voice acting gigs for Shuhei Yoshida and SWERY as well.
As a small team, we’ve poured our hearts into crafting this expansive, whimsical, and engaging 20-hour open-world RPG. We’re overjoyed to share it with you all. Dive into the demo, and enjoy the thrill of DualSense controller features like haptics, adaptive triggers, and the built-in speaker on the PS5. We can’t wait to share more about the full release soon. Now, get out there, keep those promises, and chase those dreams!
You can grab the demo on the PlayStation Store right now!
