Rec Room is buzzing with exciting first-party adventures, tailor-made for you and your pals, or even casual players you meet online. Their latest addition, ‘Run the Block,’ is already making waves. Fans of the iconic Dreamcast title, Jet Set Radio, released back in 2000, will find some nostalgic elements in this new offering.
Debuting on December 11th, ‘Run the Block’ has already captivated over a million players. The mini-game invites up to 10 racers to dash and parkour through an urban jungle, offering a thrill reminiscent of Jet Set Radio. Although it leaves out the classic rollerblades from the early 2000s, you’ll find yourself sprinting, jumping, and grinding across sprawling cityscapes, complete with graffiti tagging to mark your territory.
Despite this exciting addition, Rec Room’s lineup of first-party games has been slim this year, with ‘My Little Monster,’ their pet farming sim, being a standout release. Besides this, Rec Room has shifted its focus towards enhancing its creator suite. This allows users to not only build elaborate worlds but also create and trade assets within the game’s budding creator economy. Plus, full-body avatars were introduced earlier this year, providing players with even more ways to personalize their in-game experience.
The Switch got its Rec Room release this November, adding to the platform’s extensive list of compatible devices, including PC VR, all Quest devices, the original PSVR, iOS, Android, Pico, Xbox, and PlayStation.
