Shiftall, a company based in Japan known for their MeganeX PC VR headsets, took the stage at CES 2025 to reveal two exciting new VR accessories. They’ve introduced a SteamVR-compatible controller for PC VR and a nifty add-on designed specifically for Quest Touch controllers, bringing a scroll wheel and additional buttons to the mix.
GripVR
Shiftall’s latest creation, GripVR, aims to set a standard for PC VR controllers. Made to work seamlessly with SteamVR Tracking systems (including 1.0 and 2.0), it features a well-organized button layout. You’ll find AB/XY input buttons, clickable joysticks, triggers, and grips, all equipped with capacitive touch sensors for enhanced interaction.
With an impressive eight-hour battery life, GripVR charges via a USB Type-C port. Given that it utilizes SteamVR tracking, you can pair it with a variety of headsets like the Valve Index, HTC Vive, and of course, Shiftall’s own MeganeX superlight “8K” headset. They’re aiming for a summer release, with a retail price expected to be between $299 and $399.
AddCon
In addition to the GripVR, Shiftall has unveiled AddCon, a novel aftermarket enhancement for the left-hand Touch controllers used with Quest 3/3S/Pro. This add-on enriches the controller with a wheel and buttons, potentially simplifying interactions with 2D UI elements and VRChat controls.
One standout feature of AddCon is its shift function, thanks to an integrated capacitive sensor located on the pinky finger rest. This lets users seamlessly switch between different command setups with ease.
AddCon is perfect for users seeking expanded control options—be it tweaking camera settings or managing avatar functionalities in VRChat. It offers over 14 customizable inputs, all tweakable via a dedicated PC application. This app also doubles as an OSC command sender for standalone VRChat systems. Connecting through Bluetooth LE or a GX6/GX2 dongle, AddCon charges via a USB Type-C port. It’s set for a summer 2025 launch too, but priced more modestly at $69 for the single left-hand Touch accessory.
This announcement follows on the heels of last year’s news about their MeganeX superlight “8K” PC VR headset. Scheduled for shipment in early 2025 at $1,899, this SteamVR-compatible headset promises a sleek, lightweight design with dual 4K high-resolution OLED panels.
You might notice we referenced the "8K" label for MeganeX with some skepticism. This is to highlight that the name is more a marketing term than a reflection of the actual specifications, as the headset uses dual 3,552 × 3,840 OLED displays.
