Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 Remake had a lot of eyes on it thanks to its inclusion in the PS5 Pro’s promotional material. However, when it finally came out, the feedback was less than stellar. This resulted in a patch, which notably removed a significant PS5 Pro feature.
According to Digital Foundry on Twitter, the patch replaced Sony’s unique PSSR with Unreal Engine 5’s TSR within the game’s Performance Mode. This change meant the removal of Sony’s proprietary supersampler—a move that surprisingly resolved many of the issues players had been experiencing.
The standout outcome of this update is that the game now hits a more consistent 60 frames per second, markedly improving the overall frame rate for a much smoother experience. It’s yet another reason to take the hefty $700 price tag of Sony’s mid-generation console upgrade for “hardcore gamers” with a bit of caution.
