Snap, the company known for Snapchat, is making its latest Spectacles AR Glasses more budget-friendly for students and educators by introducing a new discount that slashes the $1,200 launch price in half.
Debuting in September 2024, the fifth-generation Spectacles, aptly named Spectacles ’24, are initially aimed at developers and come with a $100 monthly price tag for a year-long commitment.
Snap’s newest AR glasses have advanced significantly over the previous generation, launched in 2021. They offer a broader field of view, enhanced resolution, hand-tracking capabilities, and an upgraded software stack. However, the steep price has been a hurdle for students and teachers eager to explore and develop AR applications.
Now, Snap is unveiling a student discount that halves the cost, bringing it down to $49.50 a month with a minimum 12-month commitment. Afterward, the price remains at $49.50 per month for ongoing use of the headset. Alternatively, you can make a one-time payment of $594 for the first year and continue at $49.50 monthly after that.
To grab this offer, you’ll need a .edu email address or another email affiliated with an accredited educational institution. This discount is available to students and educators in US-supported regions, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria, and the Netherlands.
