In 2024, Sony shared their yearly insights on the leading downloads from their PlayStation lineup. When examining the numbers from the PSVR 2, not much has changed since its debut year. This isn’t particularly surprising, given the current state of affairs.
Having clocked nearly two years on the scene, PSVR 2 has provoked mixed sentiments. Some say it has been starved of the exclusives and strong developer backing that buoyed its predecessor, the original PSVR. Yet, die-hard enthusiasts would likely push back against that narrative.
In its defense, the PSVR 2 is quite the powerhouse. It allows developers to achieve graphical feats surpassing even the formidable Quest 3 from Meta, thanks to its high rendering capabilities. Plus, Sony’s decision to release a wired adapter last June lets users enjoy PC VR games too. However, when gauging its popularity via downloads on the PlayStation Store, the data tells a definitive story.

Unsurprisingly, Beat Saber from 2018 clinched the number one position in both North America and Europe. It’s a staple recommendation for newcomers to the VR ecosystem.
Only a couple of newcomers from 2024 managed to break into the list: Vertigo Games’ Metro Awakening, despite its late November release, and Urban Wolf Games’ Legendary Tales, which arrived in February after extensive Early Access on Steam.
Admittedly, there’s a slight unfairness in play. Arizona Sunshine 2 by Vertigo Games dropped in December 2023 and had barely a month to make waves before the year closed.
