If you’re in need of a gaming experience that can lift your spirits and make you forget any troubles, you should definitely check out this Crazy Taxi speedrun.
Crazy Taxi is the epitome of a classic video game: it’s outrageous, it’s noisy, and it’s one of those games everyone has stumbled upon in an arcade at some point, usually sparking the thought, “Wow, it’s been ages since I played Crazy Taxi! Let’s give it another go.” There’s something universally appealing about it, and for the first time in about a decade, Crazy Taxi made a grand return to the Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) charity event. But this wasn’t your ordinary speedrun. What makes this performance truly unique is the addition of a live band, belting out a medley of pop punk anthems, making the whole experience wonderfully chaotic and fun.
The speedrunner at the helm is Chuckles825, whose goal, like in every speedrun, is to complete the game as fast as possible. Most speedruns at Games Done Quick typically feature commentary to guide viewers through the process. However, that’s not the case this time, and understandably so, since narrating through the din of a live band isn’t exactly feasible. It’s incredibly entertaining to watch because the band isn’t just mindlessly playing; they have to synchronize with the game, pausing abruptly whenever a level ends or restarts. These sudden stops often result in amusing moments for both the players and the audience.
Now that Awesome Games Done Quick has concluded, the event succeeded in raising an impressive $2,556,305 for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It’s a hefty sum that goes to a significant cause. If you’re looking for more entertainment, several other exciting speedruns from the event have been uploaded on the official Games Done Quick YouTube channel.
And, in case you haven’t heard, there’s even more Crazy Taxi on the horizon with an open-world MMO version of the game currently under development. It may sound unconventional, but it’s definitely something to look forward to!
