As the buzz fills the air over the hotly anticipated Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remake stream and its unexpected release, I find myself surrounded by jubilant coworkers who can’t quite contain their excitement. Yet, for those of us looking ahead, there’s a sliver of thrilling news—Todd Howard himself has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still on Bethesda’s radar! Yes, he even mentioned that the team is actively working on it.
At the heart of today’s wealth of Oblivion Remaster updates and footage, Howard’s words stood out prominently: “obviously we’re working on the 6th chapter here.”
Incredible, isn’t it? We haven’t had a tidbit this juicy about The Elder Scrolls 6 since March 2024. That was back when Bethesda let slip that early builds of the game were out there for testers to explore. They also tantalized us with whispers about the game actually being fun—which, frankly, one would sincerely hope for!
However, let’s rewind a bit more. A former Skyrim designer warned us in October 2023 that no updates on ES6 should be expected until six months before its release. And just a month prior, Phil Spencer opined that the game might still be five years away from landing in our hands. Sure, his comment seemed a bit humorous back then, yet here we are, nearly two years on, and tangible details remain elusive.
In terms of solid, reliable updates from Bethesda, we’ve been enduring radio silence. August 2023 saw the confirmation that development had finally kicked off, a full five years following the grand reveal at E3. Now, forgive my leap of logic here, but do you think they might have jumped the gun a little with that early announcement?
Anyway, setting aside my sarcasm for a moment, it’s genuinely encouraging to see even a flicker of life from Elder Scrolls 6. Can you believe it’s been so long? Back when they announced it, I was still a school kid, and now I’m a full-fledged adult juggling bills, questionable habits, and swiping through dating apps. And as we keep our faith in Bethesda, arguably still the kings of first-person RPGs, we’re hopeful they’ll craft something amazing. Maybe they could at least toss us a bone, like a bit of concept art? Let’s be real—Liam Neeson had more solid evidence his daughter was alive in “Taken” than we have for Elder Scrolls 6 being in development.
