Valve isn’t rolling out a brand-new successor to the Steam Deck just yet, but they do have a fresh offering for fans of their gaming handheld. Prepare to meet the limited edition Steam Deck OLED, now sporting a sleek white finish.
Named the “Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White,” this new version boasts the same specifications as the 1TB model currently available. However, it’ll hit the shelves with a slightly higher price tag of $679, which is $30 more. Mark your calendars—the launch is set for next week on Monday, November 18.
Beyond its white and gray hues, this special edition package includes a matching white carrying case and a microfiber cleaning cloth. It’s a nice touch, reminiscent of past color experiments by Valve. Remember the translucent smoky shell’s limited edition? That one sold like hotcakes, despite some minor aesthetics issues. Now, the white version will be available in all the usual markets, covering the United States, Canada, the UK, Europe, Australia, and countries like Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea through the Komodo partnership. Valve plans to distribute stock proportionally across these regions.
To curb scalper antics, Valve’s implementing a one-per-account rule for this white Steam Deck. Plus, your Steam account must have at least one purchase made before November 2024.
In their press statement, Valve expressed that this second limited edition OLED aims to gather feedback for future color releases: “We’re eager to see the community’s response, and it’ll shape our decisions about potential new color variants in the future.”
While alternate colors are available through companies like Jsaux and dbrand, nothing quite matches getting it directly from Valve—assuming they don’t sell out first!
Valve also dropped a hint about the Deck’s future, mentioning that aside from color variations and continual software updates, they’re working on “ongoing developments for the future of Steam Deck and other hardware plans.”
From the photos, the new white Deck gives off a nostalgic Wii U vibe mixed with a dash of iPod aesthetics. It’ll be interesting to see if this color update is compelling enough for current users to consider an upgrade.
